Gomes Sac Fly And Red Sox Squeeze Past Twins 3-2 In Extras

Boston Red Sox catcher Jarrod Saltalamacchia returns the ball to pitcher Koji Uehara of Japan as they celebrate the final out as the Red Sox beat the Minnesota Twins 3-2 in 10 innings of a baseball game, Friday, May 17, 2013, in Minneapolis. Uehara picked up the save
The Red Sox beat the Twins in extra innings (10 innings) off of Johnny Gomes sac fly in the top of the 10th. The Sox got on the board in the first with a run but the Twins would respond in the 3rd inning off of a 2 run home run given up by Buchholz. It went all the way to the 10th, for the Sox to score another, and that would be Gomes sac fly. Uehara came in the bottom of the 10th to close out the game and earn his first save of the season, also getting 2 strikeouts. The bullpen, who has been struggling and a weak spot for the Sox, was magnificent last night, shutting out and no hitting the Twins through 3 innings. Miller went 1.2 innings giving up no hits, and getting 3 strikeouts. Wilson went 0.1 innings, getting 1 out, and Uehara went 1 inning doing good also. Well besides that last Tampa Bay game with 4 hits, the offense was here again getting 10 hits, and their only problem was not scoring with runners on base. Ortiz went 3-4 with an RBI, Nava went 2-4, and Salty went 2-4. Also Ellsbury and Gomes each had an RBI, Gomes with the game winning RBI. Buchholz was once again dominant and solid, proving who he really is this season, going 7 innings, giving up 4 hits, 2 runs, 3 walks, and getting 9 strikeouts. And he now leads the Sox in strikeouts with 69, yes get your laughs in. He could not earn his 7th win sadly, because the offense decided to show up later in the game, not supporting him but he did great, earning a no decision.

Anyways, Alex Wilson picked up his first major league win of his big league career, congratulations, many more to come with the Sox, who are 3-1 on the road trip so far this season. The Sox have won 3 straight and are currently in second place in the AL East with a 25-17 record, 1 game back of the first place Yankees. Dempster will be on the mound tomorrow tonight at 7:10 PM to face the Twins.
