Red Sox Sign Shane Victorino To 3 Year Deal Worth $39 Million

Hey Guys!

Los Angeles Dodgers’ Shane...

The Red Sox have signed Shane Victorino to a 3 year deal worth $39 million as a free agent. The Flyin Hawaiian (his nickname) spent 101 games of the 2012 season with the Phillies and was then traded to the Dodgers for 2 other players in which he played 53 games for them. Here are his stats.

Philadelphia Phillies 101 Games Stats
9 Home Runs, 40 RBI's, 24 Stolen Bases, .261 Batting Average

Los Angeles Dodgers 53 Games Stats
2 Home Runs, 15 RBI's, 15 Stolen Bases, .245 Batting Average

Full Season Stats
11 Home Runs, 55 RBI's, 39 Stolen Bases, .255 Batting Average

So his stats aren't amazingly good but his speed showed something. This year he stole 39 bases, a career high for him, and was only caught 6 times. That's pretty good for speed factors but his hitting stats weren't the best. His speed could also help out in outfield when he is chasing for balls. He won 3 gold gloves in his career, in 2008, 2009, and 2010. He was an all star in 2009 and in 2011. The only other team that was interested in Victorino were the Indians, who offered him a 4 year deal worth $40 million, but he decided to sign with us instead. I don't really know what to say about this deal. I don't think it's a big deal and some believe he is being signed if Jacoby Ellsbury gets traded or signs to a different team when the 2013 season is over. Well, hopefully he'll help the Red Sox out with making the playoffs this year. What do you think? Do you think signing Shane Victorino was a good idea? Comment!
