Hey Guys!
The Boston Red Sox have gotten all star closer Joel Hanrahan from the Pittsburgh Pirates in a 6 player deal. We also got a minor league infielder named Brock Holt. The Red Sox sent pitchers Mark Melancon and Stolmy Pimental, and second and first baseman, Ivan DeJesus Jr and Jerry Sands. I think we got the better part of the deal because we sent 1 bad pitcher and 1 OK pitcher to the Pirates and Ivan DeJesus Jr and Jerry Sands are not good prospects. Joel Hanrahan is a 2 time all star closer and has been an excellent pitcher over the last 2 years racking up 76 saves with a 2.24 ERA. Over this season he has posted a record of 5-2 with a 2.72 ERA and 36 saves. He has been a great closer and the Red Sox announced him our new closer which means he will be taking Andrew Bailey's spot. Bailey will have a different role in the bullpen. I think Hanrahan is a better decision for the closer role because he hasn't been injured and has been dominant the past 2 years and he could continue this dominance.
I didn't put this in my title but I wanted to mention it: The Red Sox are starting to talk with free agent first baseman Adam LaRoche because of the Mike Napoli incident. Apparently, LaRoche is their backup plan if they don't sign Napoli to a deal soon. The Red Sox will not speak about the Napoli problem and nobody knows anything yet. Now if we get LaRoche and not Napoli, it won't be a big deal because LaRoche had a very good season this year and hit 30 home runs. And, better yet, he had an average higher than .270, unlike Napoli having an average around .220.
Anyways what do you guys think about the Red Sox signing Joel Hanrahan? Do you think he'll be good at the closer role? Should the Red Sox sign Adam LaRoche instead of Mike Napoli? Comment!
